March 21st Prayer Update

He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.
— Isaiah 40:11

We continue to be grateful to the Lord for providing the opportunity for us to spread gospel seeds. We trust the results to God and simply seek to be faithful. Please pray with us for those mentioned in this report specifically that God would stir in each one a desire to follow Him in repentance and faith.

We had the joy of bringing 5 friends from the Antioch fairgrounds encampment, who we've been meeting with, to the The Story in Art presentation at NorthCreek Church. They were able to watch and listen to a vivid gospel presentation. We are thankful that they accepted the invitation and pray that they were blessed by the experience.

During our March 21st outreach, our teams distributed:

  • 12 English language Bibles

  • 1 Spanish language Bibles

  • 2 Spanish language New Testaments

  • 1 English language New Testaments

  • 3 Cross-Talking (Addiction) Books

Our North Concord team had the opportunity to connect with Heather. We've had the joy of serving Heather in multiple ways including participating in our RV Bible study, attending a Sunday church service, and receiving a haircut and shower provided by our team. On this occasion we had another good conversation with her where she provided us with her phone number.  She also expressed an interest in participating in another Bible study. She has an injured hand and she asked for prayer for that along with general safety and housing. We continue to pray for those things but most especially her salvation.

Our team prayed with Kelly while she sat in her vehicle. She asked prayer that she might gather several women and be enabled to rent an apartment and no longer be homeless.

Our Martinez team had a good conversation with Louis. He specifically asked for a Spanish Bible but he said he struggles with his vision. We offer over the counter reading glasses to those we meet but it seemed obvious Louis was needing to be examined by a doctor.  Our team leader provided Louis with a location he could receive an exam and Hope 680 would pay for his glasses.  Please pray that he receives this offer and that he gets his eyes checked so that we can be a practical blessing in his life.

We are well aware that there are other groups doing homeless ministries in the same encampments we visit frequently. We happened upon one of those ministries while in Pittsburg. A Spanish group was handing out burritos, drinks, and printed testimonies.  We used one of these testimonies while talking with Tyler. It was a great opportunity to engage Tyler with the gospel message.  He was appreciative and kindhearted. He is facing hard times including the loss of his father and his battles with substance abuse.  He has a desire to get into housing and expressed "his plan to follow Christ once he gets his life together."  Our team stressed he shouldn't wait to follow Christ but to pursue Christ today.  Tyler accepted a Bible. Please pray that he reads it and God uses that to soften his heart towards repentance and faith.

At the base camp at the Antioch fairgrounds, our team had an extended conversation with Dora. She said she grew up going to church and had a familiarity with the Bible. We had the opportunity to discuss the penalty of sin and walk her through the Way of the Master gospel method, which is geared towards bringing awareness of one's own sin and preparing the way for repentance and faith. Depending on a person's background, this can either be an easy conversation or one full of a lot of excuses and justification. By the end, Dora seemed to lock in and start really considering the shed blood of Christ. We pray that she will ponder the things shared.

Near one of the North Concord bridges, our team spoke with Joshua.  The team told him that his name was in the Bible and proceeded to discuss with him the accounts that are significant regarding the biblical Joshua. He accepted a Bible and prayer from our team. We provided him with a few extra lunches for his friends. Pray that he reads the Bible and that we might meet him again for further conversation.

Ken (not pictured) is someone we were able to have a conversation with two weeks ago. He accepted a Bible and listened to our presentation of the gospel to him.  He has been homeless for 20 years, and is on disability. Our team told him about the Bay Area Rescue Mission giving him all of the contact information for that ministry. He seemed interested in their job skills program and, from our perspective, would be a good candidate. Please pray that God uses that ministry in Ken's life.

A general prayer request for the Vallejo homeless population. Our team leader Don commented that the camp has grown to the point where additional resources may well be needed in future visits. The team distributed absolutely everything that was brought. Pray for those living there that the gospel message would touch hearts and people would respond by repenting of sin and receiving God's offer of eternal life.

A note from the author:
I want to add a quick thank you to each of you who faithfully read our newsletters to the end. It has been my desire to faithfully represent the heart of our ministry, the prayer requests of those we meet, and illustrate how the Lord is using your donations and prayers to further His kingdom, encourage and stretch his saints. I have the privilege of passing the baton of Hope 680 Admin to Kyndra Maya. I am so thankful to the Lord for raising Kyndra up to fill my position as I transition out. It has been a joy to work in this ministry and serve alongside many of you for these last three and a half years. Give Kyndra (right) a warm welcome when you see her.
