January 17th Prayer Update
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
As we started this new year we are grateful for the volunteer crew joining us on our first outreach to our homeless friends who were thankful to see us. Many greeted us warmly and willingly engaging us in conversation as well as accepting Bibles and prayer. Those that were closed to conversation were generally because of language barriers, or the presence of "stimulants" in their systems. We were able to hand out much by way of jackets, blankets, lunches, and blessing bags, and most importantly to share the good news of Hope in Jesus!
During our January 17th outreach, our teams distributed:
10 English Bibles
8 Spanish-language Bibles
5 English New Testaments
3 Cross-Talking (Addiction) Books
Continue to pray that God's word would not return void in the lives of those who received it.
Our North Concord team had a productive conversation with JR and his girlfriend, Amber. They live in a tent near the highway. They appreciated the items we provided, listened carefully to our gospel presentation, and accepted our offer to pray for them.
The team sent to Vallejo were able to present a clear gospel message to both Savony and Sakina. Savony seemed to understand that Christ paid for all by grace, and it seemed he understood the gospel message. Sakina, in contrast, when asked, 'Does that make sense?' replied, 'Not really.' Salvation is truly a gift from the Lord. He is the one who opens our eyes to understand His message of amazing grace enabling us to believe. Nevertheless we were encouraged that Sakina accepted a Bible and a pair of glasses. We told her we would pray that God would help her understand as she reads His word. Join us in faithfully lifting both Savony and Sakina in prayer that they may be saved.
Our North Concord team spoke with Rose, a sweet lady in her 60s, who demonstrated a sound mind and seems to be in good health. She is living under a bridge. Our team prayed for her briefly, and she was willing to accept a Bible.
Our Vallejo team found Sondra in her tent with seven puppies. It was providential to have a nurse with this team. She provided care from the medical supplies we carry as well as compassion and comfort through prayer as Sondra shared her struggles. She tearfully accepted a Bible, hot coffee, a bagged lunch, and other supplies.
A larger percentage of our conversations are with folks that we've spoken with before. This was our first interaction with Noah. He was very open about his personal and family struggles including his grief over his daughter's passing away recently from a Fentanyl overdose. Our team opened up the word with him to share how God offers comfort and eternal peace. We prayed with and for Noah. Lift up Noah in your prayers that the God of comfort would work powerfully in his life.
Deborah (not pictured) is very new to being homeless. She lost her job, and through a series of events, found herself homeless. She is understandably fearful and nervous about being out on the streets. She willingly accepted everything we offered: blankets, a coat, food, and socks. Our team shared the gospel with Deborah and prayed with her as well. Deborah is sober and bright-minded and isn't your stereotypical homeless person. We offered her information for the Bay Area Rescue Mission. She needs prayer for God's help, comfort and most importantly saving faith.
