February 7th Prayer Update
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
We had a wonderful opportunity to share with the congregation of Wellspring Church in San Ramon the ministry we are engaged in. Thanks be to our God for bringing along like-minded churches who desire to join their hearts with us. Please pray that as our network of churches grows, our gospel impact to the homeless grows as well.
We would also like to praise the Lord for providing funds for a replacement pickup truck for our ministry (pictured below). We had ongoing mechanical problems with our previous truck, which complicated our outreach events. We are thankful to have a more reliable vehicle for transporting teams and supplies.
During our February 7th outreach, our teams distributed:
12 English language Bibles
4 Spanish language Bibles
4 Spanish language New Testaments
8 English language New Testaments
4 Cross-Talking (Addiction) Books
Our Central Concord team had a good gospel discussion with Kareem. He is hopeful for housing and work as the weather gets warmer. Kareem told us he suffers from multiple sclerosis and diabetes. We are thankful for his openness, as it gives us more direct ways to lift him up in prayer. He listened as Michael read through a couple of Psalms. It's our prayer the Lord will use such conversations with Kareem to bring him to saving faith.
Our North Concord team had a heartfelt conversation with Jeff, who recently came from San Diego. He said his girlfriend passed away two days prior. He cried as he told us, and our team had the opportunity to pray with him and offer him some comfort. He had an awareness of the gospel, and the team said that Jeff seemed "pointed in the right direction." He accepted all of the items that we offered him. He was genuinely thankful showing appreciation which blessed us. Pray with us that the God of all comfort would use this tragedy to draw Jeff to Himself.
Our Antioch team made their way to the Antioch fairgrounds where homeless families are able to park. The team had a significant conversation with Kimberly who previously participated in a Bible study with us. During this outreach, she and her friend Jessica sat down as God's word was presented. The study focused on the holiness of God. Kimberly was enthusiastic to hear about the throne room of God from Isaiah 6. A man listening in was openly hostile interrupting as the word was spoken. The team silently prayed for God to intervene and allow the study to continue without interruption. The Lord granted their prayer. After a short time the man listened not showing any outward signs of softening, though he ceased interrupting. Please pray for Kimberly and her friend Jessica as they process what they heard from God's word.
In Vallejo, our team had a great conversation with JR (not pictured). He didn't seem to have any familiarity with the Bible or the gospel message, and he eagerly listened. As the team explained the gospel to him, he was on the edge of his seat. They had the opportunity to give JR an in depth walk detailing repentance, heart change, and how Jesus came to save us from our sins. He was excited to take a pocket New Testament. The team pointed him directly to the gospel of John. Seeds were planted and the soil seemed right and ready. It was heartbreaking to learn that JR struggles with a meth addiction. He took an addiction book from us but we fear for his continued dependence. We would like to coordinate a Bible study with him and two others in that encampment, Mario and Eliza. Pray with us for the Lord to free JR from his bondage to addiction and give him a clear mind to hold onto the gospel that he has heard.
Our team had a quick conversation with Damon in Vallejo (not pictured). Though brief, they were encouraged by his response. He approached the team on his bike, and he was asked if he would openly receive prayer. The team prayed for his health including a heart condition, as well as for his mother who suffers from dementia. The team pointedly asked him, "Do you know Jesus?" He responded, “I want to.” He was able to quickly acknowledge he was lost. He accepted the food we offered him. We are thankful for how God directs people to us in His perfect timing.
In Martinez, our team spoke with an older woman named Diane (not pictured) who told us she is more recently homeless. She has some challenges with her family. We were thankful for her openness to talk with us and also that she was willing to accept a Bible. She expressed openness to do Bible study with us. Our team also attempted to connect her with local resources to help her get back on her feet. We pray she pursues them.
