December 6th Prayer Update
“...But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
We were thankful for the opportunity to again share verses, words of encouragement, prayers, and Bibles with the homeless during our last outreach event. We were humbled to be the hands and feet of Jesus on a cold Saturday morning. The resounding topic of conversation with our homeless friends was the word 'repent.' We continue to pray for their physical protection, especially on these cold winter nights, but also for their spiritual transformation. We pray that God will open their eyes and hearts to a true understanding of repentance and saving faith.
During our December 6th outreach, our teams distributed:
15 English Bibles
3 Spanish-language New Testaments
2 Spanish-language Bibles
5 English New Testaments
1 Cross-Talking (Addiction) Book
We are pleased to report the kindness of the Lord in allowing us to exceed our fundraising goal for Giving Tuesday. We are thankful for God's provision through you all. If you missed Giving Tuesday and wanted another opportunity, please consider a tax-deductible year-end gift.
Our Central Concord team stopped to talk to Kevin in his camper along the road. Kevin has strong thoughts about politics that he is very passionate about. We've had conversations with him before. He accepted food from us but declined a Bible, stating that he has two Bibles in his RV. Our team tried to steer the conversation away from politics and direct it to spiritual things, which Kevin didn't have as much interest in discussing. We pray that each time we interact, trust is built, and we can lay a foundation for future gospel centered discussions.
On the streets of North Concord, our team spotted Sean sitting on the curb with his cardboard sign, which read, 'I am a good man & I try to do good deeds... but I'm only human! Just like you! God bless & Happy Holidays.' The team used that as a launching point to ask Sean about his relationship with God. Sean had a lot to share about Jesus and 'spreading the light' but wasn't able to clearly articulate the gospel, that Jesus came to pay the penalty for our sins and that we are to respond with repentance and faith. We pray our conversation with Sean was helpful and could be used by the Lord to bring a better understanding of the message of the Bible.
Our Martinez Team had two opportunities to talk to Bob (left). Bob has a working vehicle and approached us in two locations during our Martinez outreach. We provided him with a few requested winter supplies, and the Lord provided extra time to allow us to inquire about his family situation and background. Bob used to be a caretaker for his parents, but they died within six months of each other. Bob is still grieving their loss. He asked for prayer, and as we prayed for him, he got emotional. We are hopeful that these outward signs of emotion indicate a heart that is being moved by the gospel message.
Our Vallejo team had an encouraging conversation with Ashley. Her mom, Cathy, who lives with her in the encampment, recently had some serious health issues. Ashley shared a little of her upbringing with our team. She was raised in some scary and rough situations and experienced an excessive amount of hardship. Now, in this season, she has been showing a desire to go to the Lord for help. She has attended a local Vallejo church for a few weeks and was quick to join us in prayer by asking God for help and thanking Him for His undeserved mercy. Ashley asked our team for another Bible, which we gladly provided. She has shelter in an RV, but the Vallejo encampment looks like a post-apocalyptic war zone with burnt-out cars and heaping piles of trash. We desire to see her and Cathy move out of that situation and into something safer. We can be praying for God's continued work in the situation to produce faith in her, draw her to study God's word, and give her growing hope. We were thankful to provide a few minor supplies to encourage Ashley.
We have made the Antioch Fairgrounds a regular outreach location. The owner of the fairground created an RV campground for folks without a home to have a safe place to get back on their feet. Our teams have had high-quality gospel conversations with those living there. Our team decided to try that location again to see if they could encourage several to participate in a Bible Study. Four people accepted our invitation and piled into our Hope680 RV to study God's word: Robert, Jessica, Kim, and Sarah. They studied Psalm 139, focusing on God, our creator. The women specifically engaged well with God's word and asked great questions about repentance and faith. They seemed hungry for answers from the Lord, and they were very open and willing to listen. They were also eager to attend church. Be praying for them as they seek the Lord.
