October 4th Prayer Update
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”
During our October 4th outreach, our teams distributed:
8 English Bibles
1 Pocket New Testaments
4 Spanish Language Bible
5 Spanish Language New Testaments
2 Cross-Talking Books
Mark your calendars for 'Hope for the Holidays', hosted by NorthCreek Church on November 22nd, 10 am - 12 pm. This donation drop-off event is where we gratefully receive winter supplies as we head into the colder months. Men's jackets (size large or greater), blankets, sleeping bags, or men's shirts (size large or greater) would be appreciated. We would also appreciate additional items you may like to donate, like bottled water or shelf-stable food items. For a comprehensive list, please look at the donation page on our website.
We were thankful to host Sara in the ministry RV for Bible Study. Sara was very kind and open with our team about her upbringing, which included a wide variety of beliefs. These left her with bad experiences with the church. There has been much hurt leaving her with an impression God isn't hearing her cries for help leading her to distrust, resent and harbor anger towards God. Our team attempted to show her the deep love of Jesus carefully balancing the need to understand God's love and mercy and her need for repentance.
As the bible study progressed, someone approached the RV, causing Sara to react in fear. The team provided safety for Sara by having the RV drive around the block before dropping her off. The team pointed out while she was at a crucial decision point in her eternity, the enemy sent a seeming dangerous threat to distract her. This left her with much to think about. We pray that we will be able to follow up with Sara soon and that she will dig into her Bible study homework before we next meet. Please pray with us for her safety, that an additional Bible study will take place and ultimately for her salvation.
Our Vallejo team had a long gospel conversation with Shane. He accepted a Bible along with hot coffee and food.
Our team was blessed to talk with John in the Vallejo encampment. He acts as a caretaker for the area of tents over a bridge. From our conversations with John, the team thinks he may genuinely have a relationship with God. He tries to "evangelize" the people living in the encampment. We offered John a library of Ray Comfort books to read and pass along to others. There was mutual encouragement from the team's conversation with John.
At the end of Martinez Marina is Alex, in his red truck. We've talked to Alex dozens of times. He is not very open to the gospel, and today was no exception. He is not hostile to the gospel, just not engaged or interested. Nothing our team said seemed to resonate with him, and it was challenging to find an effective approach. We've tried other ways of ministering to Alex. Those on our team have tried to help him find a place to live and connect him with job opportunities. He seems more interested in pursuing drugs rather than pursuing the questions that impact his eternity. When asked, 'Where is your life going?' he answered, 'I live day to day.' Be praying for Alex that God would do a work to soften his heart towards the gospel.
On this visit with Mario and Ellie, we were able to provide them with lots of practical help. Mario told our team how bad his vision problems are, and our team found a pair of reading glasses from our supplies that he could use. He has severe problems with his neck and is unable to straighten it to look at us. He said his neck problems are from sleeping in a tent that's too small. Ellie shared a lot about her background. She was raised in a Catholic church and was willing to discuss her thoughts on God and the Bible. She told our team that she had a Bible but was willing to take another one. She shared prayer requests with our team, and they prayed for her. She also accepted an addiction book, "Cross Talking." We pray God uses these materials in their lives.
Our Martinez team had a good conversation with Joe. They brought up the many times the name Joseph was used in the Bible. When asked if he was familiar with any of the biblical figures such as Joseph, son of Jacob, and Joseph, husband of Mary he was not. The team showed him in the Bible where he could find each account and encouraged him to read them. He claims to believe in God but we were unable to talk much with him about Jesus. However, we were thankful for the time spent with him and pray that he takes our advice and reads the portions of scripture we recommended.
Please pray these individuals read the Bibles they received.
