August 2nd Prayer Update
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
During our August 2nd outreach, our teams were able to distribute:
5 Spanish Language Bibles
9 English Language Bibles
4 'Cross Talking' Books.
Our team experienced an unusually large number of roadblocks that morning, from flat tires and lost keys to plumbing problems. We recognize that God can use these and other setbacks for His kingdom purposes. When one of the team leaders had to take an Uber after experiencing car trouble, God opened up a gospel opportunity with the driver, which also resulted in an invitation to attend church. Sometimes our difficulties are divine appointments. It is our continued prayer that all those who receive the good news of the gospel would know Christ in a personal way. Please pray for those that we mention in this report to know Christ.
Due to the additional challenges, many of our teams were unable to take photos during their outreach event. We know that God knows each person by name, and as we lift them up in prayer, our Father can still work even when we might not be able to match a name to a face.
We had an opportunity to talk to Stacey in Martinez. She was willing to listen to a full gospel presentation from the ten commandments to repentance and faith. When she was asked about her own guilt before a Holy God, she answered honestly, with tears in her eyes. She also shared some of her grief and loss with us. Many years ago, she lost her daughter at birth. Then there was the additional loss of her Mother five months later. These losses continues to impact her even now. It's our prayer that the gospel message given would be an encouragement and a resolve for hopefulness found only in the Savior. Our team pointed her to scripture where God has borne our grief and our sorrow (Isaiah 53:4). Please pray with us for Stacey to turn to Christ.
We had an encouraging conversation with Harley in Vallejo. He expressed a desire to "turn his life around." He told us about a few experiences in his life where he felt God was directing his steps. He has also benefited from some love and care bestowed on him from some Christians in a recovery house which had an impact on him. He told our team that he would like to connect with "good people like that again" and was interested in information on Community Bible Church in Vallejo. He expressed a desire to finish his degree and get his life back in order. We hope to follow up with him. Please pray with us that he would follow through on the things we discussed.
In Vallejo, we were able to follow up with Cathy, an elderly lady in rough shape. She expressed lost hope in her situation. We were blessed to have a nurse participating in this outreach who was able to provide Cathy with some medical care while sharing her testimony. Cathy said that she doesn't believe in prayer or in God, but she was thankful for the care our team provided. Would you join us in praying for Cathy and her health struggles? We desire that she would see answered prayer concerning the healing of her feet and to recognize the fact that there is a God who exists and wants to have a relationship with her.
Chalka was receptive to a conversation, and said she has been sharing a tent with some guys, but wasn't feeling safe. When we asked if we could pray for her, she started crying and said, 'Thank you so much, I am so touched that you prayed for me.' She didn't have any spare clothes, so we offered her shirts from our supply. We pray that some of what we shared will continue to resonate with Chalka.
Our team had the opportunity to open the Bible with Claude. They read with him a passage from the book of Ephesians telling him the importance of reading God's word daily. His response was, 'Wow, I like that, I like this Bible." Our team was encouraged by this conversation. They were also able to provide Claude with food and coffee.
While in Martinez, our outreach team had a conversation with Mike. He told us he is a meth addict who has been on the streets for nine years. It was difficult to understand Mike given he lost many of this teeth as a result of his addiction. Mike told our team he believes in Christ but didn’t have much to say to back up his claim. Our team wanted to gently direct him to understand that genuine faith involves repentance and submission to God. We know that Satan wants people to be deceived that they are right with God, when in fact they are not. Mike was willing to accept an addiction book “Cross Talking,” as well as a pocket New Testament. He seems to have some understanding of sin but continues living a sinful lifestyle. Overall, Mike is a nice guy to talk to and was grateful and appreciative of the material things provided as well as prayer. We are specifically praying that the gracious hand of God would be wiling to pull Mike out of his addiction and gift him with the motivation to do what he knows he needs to do.
Please pray these individuals read the Bibles they received.
